Ganglion cysts:
It is the most common hand mass; mucin-filled synovial cyst caused by either trauma ,
synovial herniation, or mucoid degeneration.
Chance of having a ganglion cyst increases with the use of the joint. It affects anyone at any age,
but most commonly affects women aged between 20 and 40 years.
Symptoms :

Fixed soft swelling that
appears or disappears suddenly or gradually , might change in size.

Usually not painful; you
may feel mild pain when moving the affected joint ( because of the pressure
effect the cyst may have on surrounding nerves )

Pain in the ligaments
connected to the cyst associated with weakness in fingers.
Examination:
After
taking your medical history , the doctor will palpate the swelling . He may
press your wrist to check if the cyst presses on your arteries. The doctor may perform
transillumination test to make sure of the contents of the cyst. He might ask
for ultrasound or MRI .
